PowerPoint summarizer with slide references

Turn the readable text in a PowerPoint into a concise AI summary, then inspect the original passage behind each point. Choose the relevant slides and decide whether to include speaker notes before sending any content for generation.

How to summarize a PowerPoint

1. Choose the PPTX. Reading happens in your browser. Use an unencrypted file up to 5 MB and 50 slides.
2. Review the input. Select a slide range and open the source previews. Notes are excluded from the AI request by default; hidden slides are excluded unless you include them.
3. Generate the summary. The selected source text goes to our server and OpenAI. A concise set of points returns with source references.
4. Check and export. Open each source, compare the claim with the original deck and download or copy the summary.

Why the source preview matters

A slide can mix editable text, a screenshot, a table and notes. These elements do not all become equivalent text. This tool preserves the presentation’s slide order, reads editable text and retains table rows as text cells. It does not interpret the pixels in images, the meaning of a diagram or the plotted values in a chart.

Look for missing qualifiers before generation. A budget table may say that a channel is awaiting approval, while a headline describes the overall campaign as ready. Both statements matter. If the source preview loses an important relationship or omits a visual condition, summarize a reviewed text reference instead or inspect that part separately.

Each generated point cites source IDs selected by the model. The server resolves those IDs to actual passages in your request. That prevents invented quotation text and references to absent sources. It does not prove that every generated claim follows from the passage; that is why the original source remains visible beside the summary.

Try the campaign example

The downloadable example describes a fictional Harbor campaign. Its four slides cover a launch plan, channel allocations, an image-only review marker and customer quotation permissions. A rehearsal date appears only in speaker notes. This deliberate separation makes it possible to inspect what changes when notes are included.

After generating, check whether the summary preserves the finance approval still pending for paid ads. Also check that marketing approval has not replaced the separate requirement for customer permission and legal approval. The image-only code should not appear as a read value: this tool does not interpret that image.

What is sent and what stays local?

The original PPTX remains in your browser. Choosing a file does not send it to our server. When you select Generate, the displayed source text and its slide numbers go to Ask Your Docs and OpenAI. The request does not include the original file bytes or filename.

The summary service does not write the source text or answer to our document library. It retains a daily usage counter associated with a keyed anonymous browser identifier. A necessary cookie supports the free allowance. OpenAI processes the submitted text under its applicable API terms; do not treat local file reading as a claim that AI generation also runs locally.

Limits and recovery

A generation request accepts up to 40,000 text characters and 1,000 source passages. Select a smaller range if a dense deck exceeds those limits. Sources are rejected when they exceed the bounds; the service does not silently discard the end of a presentation to make it fit.

Generation is subject to a shared daily allowance as well as the browser allowance. An unavailable or busy service returns a message, while your local preview stays available. There are no automatic paid retries. Cancelling stops waiting in your browser; a request already started may still finish at the provider and count toward the allowance.

For a reusable reference collection, keep the original deck alongside a reviewed summary and record its version. The knowledge base starter kit includes an update log. A new deck version needs a new source review, even when its title stays the same.
